Acer palmatum K
Kagiri nishiki (medium) An upright growing variegated cultivar. Base colour is blue-green with creamy white margins of irregular depth. These areas in turn are suffused with rose-pink changing to rose-crimson in autumn.
Kamagata (small) A delicate-looking, twiggy cultivar but in reality tough and vigorous with narrow-lobed light green leaves heavily margined with bright rusty red. Autumn colours are shades of brilliant orange and red.
Kandy Kitchen (small) A witch’s broom with long, narrow-lobed leaves. New growth is bright pink-red darkening to purple-red in summer with shaded leaves turning bronze-green. Autumn colour is a bright scarlet red.
Karasugawa (medium) An upright but eventually spreading variegated cultivar. Spring growth is quite spectacular with some leaves entirely bright rose-pink whilst other leaves will be cream with pale pink mottling. A third permutation will be pale green and cream on a green background whilst young shoots are all bright pink. Autumn colours are a mixture of deep pink and red.
Kasagiyama (medium) An unusual cultivar with a unique shade of bright brick-red and prominently contrasting veins of very dark red black. Given full sun, the leaves will stay light brick-red throughout the summer with the second flush of growth producing mauve red leaves.
Kasen nishiki (large) New leaves open pink/orange-red and as this colour fades the variegation becomes apparent. Subdued streaking and speckling of cream and pale green suffused with pale pink on a mid-green background.
Kashima (small) Tiny, one-inch leaves on a very dense, twiggy plant gives this cultivar the appearance of a large bonsai at maturity. Spring colour is yellow, heavily margined with bright burnt orange changing to fresh green in summer. Autumn colour is yellow to orange.
Kingsville Variegated (medium) The base colour of this cultivar is deep green to blue-green with the variegation taking the form of irregular pink margins with some lobes completely pink. Summer growth produces leaves with brighter pink variegation with a wash of orange across the entire leaf, darkest along the margins.
Kinshii (medium) A linearilobum cultivar intermediate between Koto ito komachi and Koto no ito. The narrow, light green leaves give the plant a lacy look. Leaves darken in the summer and change to orangeand yellow in the autumn.
Kiyohime (small) A slightly more rounded cultivar than the other members of this yatsubusa group. Leaves are a glossy mid-green with orange-red margins.
Ko chidori (small) Small, deeply divided leaves are green with red tips in the spring. The green darkens in the summer and changes to orange and red in the autumn.
Koba shojo (medium) Small, deeply divided leaves are deep red as are the petioles and the short, sturdy shoots. The colour holds well throughout the summer, becoming more intense in the autumn.
Kokobunji nishiki (medium) This cultivar is also found as Asagi nishiki and Asahi nishiki. Small, crinkled, palmate leaves open pale lemon- yellow in spring and when fully open, areas of light green begin to appear. Going into summer, the leaves darken somewhat and the variegation is bright yellow and mid-green. Autumn colours are shades of red.
Komachi hime (small) New growth is light lemon-green with bright rust-red margins. The colour holds well throughout the season.
Komon nishiki (medium) A variegated cultivar, delicately marked with orange on a light green background, either speckled or in blocks on part or all of a lobe. Spring growth is covered with a wash of pink that gradually recedes to the margins. Autumn colour is bright crimson.
Koriba (medium) Deep purple-red leaves in spring with attractive contrasting mid veins of yellow. Deep green in summer with autumn colour of brilliant orange-yellow.
Koshibori nishiki (medium) Similar to but a little more flamboyant than Komon nishiki; this cultivar can be somewhat temperamental in producing it’s variegation. Spring growth is suffused with orange-red, darker at the margins, that gradually fades to reveal pale orange and yellow flecks and speckling on a green base. Autumn colour is yellow and orange.
Kotohime (small) A densely-twiggy cultivar with small, crinkled, rose-red leaves crowded on short, stubby shoots. Colour gradually fades to the margins leaving bright, light green leaves in summer, changing to yellow and orange in autumn.
Koto ito komachi (medium) A linearilobum cultivar with green thread-like leaves. Young, vigorous plants, however, exhibit much coarser leaves and it takes a while for the true character to show.
Koto no ito (medium) A linearilobum cultivar with light green leaves and pale orange tips. A reliable performer with very little juvenile foliage when young.
Koya san (small) An upright, twiggy cultivar with narrow-lobed leaves that open bronze-red, gradually changing to bronze-green with orange summer growth.
Koyo ao shidare (dissectum) Coarsely serrated, narrow lobed leaves are green with a reddish tint in the spring. Unusually for a green dissectum, autumn colour is a brilliant red.
Kurui jishi (small) A slow-growing, upright cultivar, in appearance a dwarf version of Okushimo. Leaves emerge light green gradually changing to a bottle green with the lobes of the leaves rolling up to form almost a tube with hooked ends. In addition, many of the leaves droop down, held at right angles to the stalk. Autumn colour is yellow.
